More photos to come, but here are a few shots from Hollywood Holt’s set last night at Schubas. Hollywood was also one of the many DJs / performers at Saturday night’s 5th and final Claychella event. He spent more time DJing on Saturday, but last night he did his rap thing.
To wrap up the year, I wanted to look through my photos and compile a few lists of the things I enjoy shooting. I will be posting the top 10 photos across 10 categories to close out 2010. Every time Delta Spirit comes to Chicago, they play their hearts out. I know they do it at every stop on their tours, and that’s what makes it even more impressive – how Matt Vasquez even has functioning vocal chords after all these days on the road… we will never know.
Metro seems to be the preferred stop for these guys – their last visit included a stop here (click to see those photos). Just like last time, there was no photo pit up front. So, rather than deal with the crowd, I decided to shoot from a slightly different angle – the balcony. This was the first time I’ve shot a show from the balcony, and it was actually pretty fun.
Just before Thanksgiving, The Frames returned to Chicago after a long hiatus. The last few times Glen Hansard and band stopped here, they were hailed under a different banner – Swell Season, but the band remained much the same. This time, without Marketa, the guys put on the rock show they are known for – interspersed with Glen’s ramblings and stories. It was another wonderful show, which highlighted why Glen is a master of the live concert.
Frightened Rabbit is back in Europe now, but they concluded their US tour last Thursday at the House of Blues, with tour mates Plants & Animals and Phantom Band. These guys always put on an amazing show, and I hope they make it back to the US soon. You can see photos of Plants & Animals here. Enjoy the photos below.

Last Thursday, Plants & Animals opened for Frightened Rabbit at the House of Blues Chicago. This was the last stop for their current US tour, and the Plants & Animals guys are now back in Canada. Overall, the stage was pretty dark for their set, but below are a few photos from the show. Photos of Frightened Rabbit to come.
On Monday, Ezra Furman played his first of four solo acoustic shows at Schubas. He will be playing again for the next three Mondays – November 1st, 8th and 15th. You can get your tickets here. Ezra claims he won’t play the same song at any of the shows, so buy a ticket to all of them!
